India – Sri Lanka Collaborative Conference on Pali Language 2025

  1. The Assistant High Commission of India, in collaboration with the International Relations Office and the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies of the University of Peradeniya, organized a conference The Future of the Pali Language on 26th August 2025 at the University of Peradeniya
  1. The conference aimed to foster academic collaboration, promote advanced research opportunities, and strengthen the cultural and intellectual ties between India and Sri Lanka through the promotion of Pali studies.
  1. The event was graced by the Deputy Prelate of Malwatte Chapter and attended by the Buddhist religious leaders and eminent scholars from India and other countries.
  1. The workshop highlighted the evolving significance of the Pali language in the modern world, Pali manuscriptology and its varied applications in Theravāda Buddhism and the paradigm shift of Pali as a purely classical language to its use in contemporary communicative contexts. The workshop emphasized the importance of translating and interpreting cultural and religious texts for a broader audience.
  1. The conference served as a dynamic platform for dialogue and collaboration between Indian and Sri Lankan scholars. It reaffirmed the shared heritage and mutual commitment to preserving and advancing Pali studies.
