India – Sri Lanka Collaborative Conference on Pali Language 2025
- The Assistant High Commission of India, in collaboration with the International Relations Office and the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies of the University of Peradeniya, organized a conference “The Future of the Pali Language” on 26th August 2025 at the University of Peradeniya
- The conference aimed to foster academic collaboration, promote advanced research opportunities, and strengthen the cultural and intellectual ties between India and Sri Lanka through the promotion of Pali studies.
- The event was graced by the Deputy Prelate of Malwatte Chapter and attended by the Buddhist religious leaders and eminent scholars from India and other countries.
- The workshop highlighted the evolving significance of the Pali language in the modern world, Pali manuscriptology and its varied applications in Theravāda Buddhism and the paradigm shift of Pali as a purely classical language to its use in contemporary communicative contexts. The workshop emphasized the importance of translating and interpreting cultural and religious texts for a broader audience.
- The conference served as a dynamic platform for dialogue and collaboration between Indian and Sri Lankan scholars. It reaffirmed the shared heritage and mutual commitment to preserving and advancing Pali studies.
